Chinatown is my favorite part of San Francisco...

And it's also my favorite place to photograph in the area, especially at night. The lighting is so layered, so textural. It's such a dynamic and dramatic place.

Walking Around with a 'Nifty 50'

I decided to walk around Chinatown with my Canon R8 and RF 50mm f/1.8, aka the 'Nifty 50'. It's a very small and unobtrusive setup. Despite the focal lengths popularity, I've never really warmed up to the 50mm focal length; I find it either not wide enough or too narrow, but never just right. I think that's one of the reasons I've been forcing myself to use it more lately, to finally learn to like the focal length.

Chinatown didn't disappoint. It is filled with rich, layered, and textured lighting. It is a bustling and exciting area that reminds me of my travels in Asia. It is an area that is both grounding, because of my familiarity with it, and also inspiring and motivating; being there makes me want to travel again. It makes me long for the lively.

Who Knows...

Maybe this was the final push I needed to get on another plane and seek out some new photographic destinations.
